AI Chat
Use the Elyxir Studio chat interface to interact with AI models using Alvin intelligent routing.
The AI Chat interface in Elyxir Studio provides a powerful way to interact with AI models. By default, Alvin automatically routes your requests to the optimal model, but you can also select specific models.

Quick Start
- Navigate to Studio in the main menu
- Type your message in the input field
- Press Enter to send
- View the response with model attribution
Alvin analyzes your prompt and automatically routes to the best model. You'll see which model was selected in the response header.
Interface Components
Message Input
The message input at the bottom of the screen supports:
- Multi-line text with
Shift + Enter - File attachments (where supported by the model)
- Settings toggle for model and parameter selection
Conversation Panel
The main area displays:
- Your messages (right-aligned)
- AI responses (left-aligned)
- Model attribution for each response
- Timestamps and metadata
Settings Panel
Access settings via the gear icon:

| Model | Select specific model or use Alvin routing |
| Temperature | Control randomness (0 = deterministic, 1 = creative) |
| Max Tokens | Limit response length |
| Web Search | Enable real-time web search |
Chat Modes
Alvin Routing (Default)
Let Alvin automatically select the best model:
- Analyzes your prompt for task type
- Considers cost and performance
- Routes to optimal model
- Shows model attribution in response

Manual Model Selection
Choose a specific model:
- Click the Model dropdown
- Search or browse available models
- Select your preferred model
- All subsequent messages use that model
Conversation Management
Starting New Conversations
Click New Chat or use Ctrl/Cmd + N to start fresh.
Accessing History
Previous conversations are saved automatically:
- Click the sidebar toggle
- Browse conversation history
- Click any conversation to continue
Exporting Conversations
Export your chat for reference:
- Open the conversation menu
- Select Export
- Choose format (Markdown or JSON)

- Be specific: Clear prompts get better responses
